Recognition of German Transit License Plates

Short term (yellow border)

5 days

These license plates are valid for a period of 5 days and are insured with a green card.
According to a communication of the German Ministry of Traffic, Construction and Urban Development of July,13th 2007, official instances outside of Germany should recognize the German Short Term Transit License (yellow border) as well as the trade plate, as long as the validity period hasn‘t exceeded.

Long term (red border)

1, 2 or 3 months

The vehicle has to go to the technical inspection in Germany. If you want us to, we can take care of that for you. Please make sure the vehicle is in a good condition.

Different procedures

The maximum number of requesting a Belgian Transit License is 2 times. The longest period of validity of a Belgian Transit License is 6 months. For that reason we strongly advise a request for a period of at least 2 months, preferably more.

1. Individuals residing in the European Union, with no residency in Belgium and without a tax ID number.

You pay the taxes in Belgium, where you're buying the car.

Needed documents for this procedure. Please check the validity period of all your documents.

Bring these documents along with you. We will take care of everything necessary for the technical control of the vehicle, insurance and transit licence plates.

2. Individuals or companies with a tax ID number and no registration in Belgium

You have a tax ID number. You don't pay taxes in Belgium. Watch out! At the moment of the purchase your tax ID number has to be valid.

3. Individuals or companies from outside the European Union never pay taxes in the country of purchase (Belgium)

4. For companies we also need:

Original statutes of the company translated in one of the official languages of Belgium. Watch out! If your company is older than six months, you also need an attestation of the Chambre of Commerce confirming that your company is still active.
